Why Thermography

Thermography offers a unique perspective of your body's physiology by capturing vital heat and cool patterns, providing insights into vascular activity, inflammation, tissue density, and more. Unlike mammography, ultrasound, or MRI, which focus on physical abnormalities, thermography detects physiological changes—making it a valuable tool for early intervention.

Early detection through our state of the art Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging DITI service.

Inflammation

Inflammation is the body’s natural response against injury, infection, and allergy.  The response starts with increased blood flow to the area, increased white blood cells (WBCs), and release of chemical toxins. The purpose of this is intended to protect the body from invasion by foreign organisms and to repair tissue trauma. Signs are redness, heat at the site, swelling, pain, and loss of function of that body part.  Systemic inflammation are whole body reactions to things like fever, joint and muscle pain, organ dysfunction, and malaise.

What is Inflammation ?
If breast thermography is such a great assessment tool, why is it not more readily available or widely used?

When thermography was first explored for breast imaging, it was viewed as competitive to mammograms. It was tested and evaluated to see if it was safer and more diagnostically accurate than mammography.

You cannot compare tests of physiology and anatomy, and yet this raised lots of questions.  Further, as thermography was tested on younger women, thermographic abnormalities were detected many times and the mammogram did not detect any tumors. The results were considered to be "false positives," and the more this occurred, the more suspicion was placed on thermography.

Years later, in re-call studies, a large percentage of these women had developed breast cancer or other breast disease, in the exact location of the abnormal "false-positive" thermogram, thus validating its early warning.

In addition, thermography was being used in sports medicine, dentistry, podiatry, chiropractic, orthopedics, rheumatology, and neurology in a variety of support and adjunctive diagnostic roles.

Thermography could clearly and objectively demonstrate the physiological component of pain and injury, especially to the spinal column due to car accidents, job injuries, and a host of other "tort" related lawsuits. Everyone involved benefited from these positive and clear thermographic findings seen by a jury, except the defendant insurance agency industry.

Soon, lobbying at the AMA House of Delegates and Medicare brought about the removal of thermographic coverage by most insurance companies which reduced the use of digital infrared thermal imaging in the United States.

How it's done

01

Your medical history and images are securely transmitted to our Meditherm team, led by a board-certified thermologist. They will interpret the thermal patterns and provide clinical recommendations.

02

Our portable equipment allows us to serve you from various locations, and we can even travel to other states by request. For wellness-focused businesses, we offer options for on-site visits, ensuring the well-being of your staff.

03

Our Thermal Imaging method uses digital infrared cameras to capture heat and cool patterns, uncovering areas of concern. Full-body scans offer insights into conditions like thyroid health, circulatory issues, oral health, muscular tension, joint changes, and more.

04

Thermography provides a clear picture of breast health, helping you understand the condition in and around this vital area.

Thermogram Always
I am a registered nurse, and I have chosen to do Thermograms to monitor my breast health since 2001. I have never subjected my breasts to a Mammogram, nor will I ever get a Mammogram. A study in England concluded that Thermograms were far more effective in detecting a problem in the breast than a mammogram.  Thermograms will pick up problems in breast tissue on the chest wall and up under the armpit that Mammograms can not. For example, I had a client who had a wound on the top of her breast. After a
year of an open wound growing worse and about four Mammograms, they did a biopsy, and she had inflammatory ductal cancer. The Mammogram missed it. The Thermogram would have picked up a significant heat signature, indicating a problem. Another big positive is that thermograms cause no pain!

FAQs

  • Thermography or Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging is used to see changes happening

in the body from a functional point of view. This is the physiology of the breasts, organs

and systems we look at...how are they working?

  • One of the primary aspects of Thermography is noting where and how much inflammation is in the body based on temperature and color assigned to each 1/2 degree of temperature that is typical for a person. We can assess mild to severe inflammation, and cooler areas which indicate potential concerns of circulation or nervous system dysfunction.

  • There are not too many. As it is an adjunctive tool, it helps us see physiology, but cannot be considered diagnostic. Sometimes that is disappointing to a client, but I help them understand that it is a pointer towards looking deeper at a potential issue. Also, we cannot see into the head or pubic region of the body, so cannot 'see' prostate issues, for example, and some surface skin issues are not notable unless inflamed.

  • This is determined by the client and his/her needs. Once a woman has her 2 baseline breast appointments done, she is set to come annually unless a scan shows an area of concern; then she returns in 3 months for a recommended follow-up. Some clients like to have an annual Full Body scan to see how they are doing year to year, which is a great baseline wellness tool.

  •  We do not want to add recent/acute inflammation to the body before a thermal scan, which can be caused by massage, chiropractic adjustments, exercise, weight lifting or any heavy muscle use, heat therapies, acupuncture, tanning, caffeine, alcohol, sugar, and stress.  If these can be avoided or reduced within 24-48 hours of the appt, we will more clearly see where the inflammation is a chronic pattern.  Keeping the skin clean and free from any added chemicals is also important, so avoid deodorant, powder, lotions, oils, topical creams, and makeup on the areas to be scanned.
